Too Much Medicine

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is it such a thing as your body being toxic. After so many years of all the medicine do at any time you get flushed out. Sometimes I feel like my body needs cleaning because I feel so heavy, tired and no will power and taste buds goin crazy. My chest and shoulder feel tight a lot along with my head feeling cloudy all the time. Am I missing something.?

My son 'went toxic' on Dilantin in his senior year in high school. Went for bloodwork and the numbers were outrageous. We had to take the medication away and wait for his body to process the med out of his system. Had to get bloodwork every day and when he finally 'seized' 5 days later we hospitalized him and started him on a new medication.
Please talk with your doctor. He/She may have some ideas to help you out without going through what we did.

I have had seizures since I was 12. I have been on many meds and many seizures. I have played sports but the added pressure of seizures caused me to stress out. So I made myself a promise. Epilepsy and meds are like a broken finger that you cannot repair. So I learned how to live for me regardless of epilepsy. I have many seizures, headaches, medication changes etc. I have had all the emotional trips one goes on with this seize. I just tried each time to force myself to be me. Not the epileptic just me. The reesult I'm still standing . But it is hard and you can never stop dreaming.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Wow, what an awful and scary experience for you to go through. I think it's a reminder to everyone to have their medication levels checked periodically no matter what medication you're on or how long you've been on it. The body/brain/medication balance can be impacted by so many factors including aging, stress, illness, etc. Thank you for sharing your story!

Completely agree! Let not forget that medications change our personalities. However our lives would be hell without them. Either way life is hard!
