I'm Going In For A Week Long EEG Hospital Stay -no Date Yet-to Figure Out What Is Going On, But I Was Wondering What Should I Bring Or Not

Portland, OR

So I was originally diagnosed with tonic emplipsy but the head of the neurology department told her ( after 4 years) he believes I was diagnosed incorrectly so he wants me to come in to have a week long EEG to figure out what is going on,

I get very nervous and anxious when having to wait for anything more than just a DR appointment ( although I've definitely had times where I was very nervous and stressed with them)
So it's not that I don't like Drs or hi hospitals or even am worried about the… read more

I didn’t bring any but I had to ask the nurse for earplugs. My parents were snoring loud.

Sabrina Actually pretty boring to be stuck in bed at hospital. True bout surrounded by worry from various health probs. Workers must be trained to handle many. Your testing Dr. will be able to trace seizure to determine if any starting point, how it affects you physically + which meds will help most. Just bring something to do to amuse self during too.

After 3 EMU's, as well not knkwing how long id be there.I'd bring couple button up shirts or pajama tops, and some pants. I also brought body wipes, so I could wipe myself down since cant shower. I also brought my ear buds to listen to music, brought my iPad, crossword puzzles, cards play solitaire lol, adult coloring books, book to read. Bring anytning to keep you occupied. I also brought some snacks and drinks just in case. After 2ndd one and breaking down mentall alot, and wanting to leave.
So for 3rd I made a motivational board with quotes or sayings to remind myself keep going and big lettering saying keep going im strong, put pics of my loved ones on there and had it in front of me so I saw it all the time. That really helped me alot not breaking down feeling low and depressed as much.
I wish the best for you

The first eeg I had done was a week long stay and I will say that it was very boring and I wanted to go home so badly. I was trying to hide my real feelings until I broke down crying to my mom. I didn't want to be there anymore, was bored outta my mind got so angry that there was always someone there or watching( I am someone who really likes to be alone) but it was necessary and they were able to capture 5 seizures and get my diagnosis. The second time I had one a few years later was a bit different when my instincts to help kicked in just like you’re feeling. There were two alarms and code blues that went off in other rooms and I so badly wanted to go in and do something but obviously cannot do that for the various reasons. It can be difficult and boring to be in the hospital for a long time with not a lot to do but just remember that your doctor is doing it for a reason and to try to help.
I would say try to wear a shirt that is very loose or button up because of the wires. Bring some extra pants( and undies haha). The second time since I knew what to expect I brought my art and drawing stuff to keep my occupied, my laptop, some snacks and I also brought my own blanket from home. Good luck with your stay I hope everything goes well❤️
