Treating and Managing Epilepsy

Posted on March 26, 2021

“There’s much more to epilepsy than just the seizures … there’s the stress and worry of having another seizure, the feeling of a loss of independence,” and more.

That was one key insight that Dr. Jonathan Edwards shared during MyEpilepsyTeam’s live Q&A on March 24, 2021, hosted by MyEpilepsyTeam co-founder Mary Ray.

Dr. Edwards answered members’ questions about how they can gauge whether they might be candidates for surgery, and what other treatment options are available.

Members submitted scores of questions leading up to and during the event, with many MyEpilepsyTeam members curious about whether any upcoming treatments are on the horizon for epilepsy.

Here are some of the things Dr. Edwards discussed during the live Q&A:

  • Whether mood impacts seizure activity
  • The safety of epilepsy surgery when compared to the safety of living with uncontrolled seizures
  • Whether people with epilepsy should get the COVID-19 vaccine
