Blackouts
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I noticed lately lots of people on the forum are having lots of blackouts as well as seizures. Is there a common link here or medication?

Agreed but I have focals with impaired consciousness and generalised seizures. Some people may have focals with consciousness. The wonderful world of epilepsy is a parculiar yet interesting one. All the ways your brain can deceive you πŸ˜‚

That is correct. An epileptic seizure causes increased prolactin levels in the blood and a misfire of electrical activity in the brain. That’s why you can see epileptic activity on an EEG

As to the details on Blackouts:
Blackouts are often associated with alcohol consumption. For many people, drinking too much alcohol too quickly, or on an empty stomach, can cause a blackout.

A blackout can also be caused by:

epileptic seizures
fainting
low blood pressure
psychogenic seizures
low blood sugar
certain medications
oxygen restriction

It might be possible that it may be a side effect from meds. I’m not fully sure.

For myself I have a little activity in the Occipital lobe ( Vision ) of the brain .
When that acts up , I have double vision, blurry vision, and blackouts.
