What Are Auras?

Ok this may sound strange coming from someone who has had epilepsy for 20 years. But what exactly is an aura? I've never heard of the term before.

I get aura's every day. Mine are usually headaches, dizziness, heart racing, sometimes my eye lids twitch like crazy too

I have two types of seizures. I have complex partials, and when i get one of them i get an aura, but the thing is i don't realize it because it somewhat part of the complex partial. With the complex partial i am unaware of my actions but i am still walking or doing what i was doing at the time it lasts for a few minutes. Sometimes, not always i will get a clonic tonic grand mal after. But I don't get complex partials very often. When i get aura's they can dizziness, burning headache, nausea, funny smell, funny taste, nervous feeling in stomach. Sometime later i have a clonic tonic grand mal. All i have lately is clonic tonic grand mals. I havent had complex partials in quite a while. Then sometimes i don't get a warning at all. After my seizures its really bad.

Not everyone gets them. I used to get them but not anymore.

An aura is kind of like a warning. Something your body tends to do about 30min to an hour before a seizure happens. I used to have them when I was younger. My cheeks would feel stiff. Not everyone has them.

Aura can be warning of any type. These can range from dizziness, very bad headache, floating lights or shapes, a smell that not there, feeling of being there before, bad tastes in your mouth, twitching and list could go on. These are some of my warning.
I get absence seizure's nearly everyday so don't take much notice but if I have alot more than usual for me and I'm wobbly, feeling faint or very dizzy or anything else then I know this is my aura's and warning signs that I'm head for a grand mal seizure so I try to get somewhere safe in time.
Sometimes this is not always the case as I have had many times when I get no warning at all and they just hit me.
Same with other people like they said as not everyone gets warning or aura's, so although it's never nice to have epilepsy it is nice to have some sort of warning sign. (If that makes sense)
