Emotional State And Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have temporal lobe epilepsy and sometimes i can feel really happy for no apparent reason and other times i can feel so low it's ridiculous, and the moods are always accompanied with a stuffy head, almost like a hangover, Could it be linked to the epilepsy?

Yes, it's going to be a better day. When waking up in the morning, I make it a habit, when opening my eyes, to SMILE. I'm still breathing. The sky is blue. The trees are green (depending upon where you live!) and I'm ALIVE. We have been given a certain gift and insight. An understanding that others may not perceive. In my humble opinion, life is grand. Embrace it with every atom, every molecule in your being! These are the things that poets and sages have been trying to express for a millennium.

Anything could be linked to The Epilespy! I also have Temporal lobe Epilespy! When I was born My Mother had a C-Section, and back in the Day they used Forcepts to take out Babies!
I had lacked Oxygen from the Time I Born, and at 9 months Old I had My First Grand my Seizure, and had to be rushed to the Hospital, and when they ran test and EEG S t back then thats when the Dr found out that the Tissue on the lower left Ear lobe was Damaged and that I had lacked Oxygen when I was Born, but I didnt have My First Seizure until 9 months! I also had headaches at Times, and Post Nasal Problems also! I Sometimes feel Happy, then at Times feel kike I don want to do Anything, and I also have Anxiety, at a Certain Time of the day around 5 but No later than 6 at night, I have to go in My room, because I get Anxious and need to go to a place where I can relax and watch Tv or reada book! But I really do think that Anything can be linked to Epiiespy!

I have been in the same boat, but was partially down to being overprescribed my meds. GP practice got the dosage wrong and the side effects were as you have described - going from being really happy to sitting on the floor in floods of tears. Some epilepsy medication can cause depression which I now have but I go running now to try to help with that.

I agree that the roller-coaster is brought on a lot by the meds. While on tegretol and neurontin I experienced it a lot. Now that I'm on limactal at 150mg in the am and 200mg at pm I'm feeling better. Also I have always had the majority of my seizures during sleep be it nighttime or daytime nap. My last grand mal was 3 weeks ago right after falling asleep . You can wake up feeling like you've been hit by a train. Keep records. Every seizure is kept in a logbook, even the ones that don't wake me. I listen to my wife now and record every one. Even the ones where she says I was just kicking my legs. That's why my 200mg of limactal was added at pm. It's helping.
