Carbatrol

I've been put up to 1200 mg per day of tegretol retard. This is the maximum dose and seems very high - has anyone else been on such a high dose and did you suffer any side effects?

Yes, I started to take a whole cache of tablets whilst on Tegretol monotherapy. I found myself coming down with colds so easily, whereas I'd been a rather healthy person. So I figured the white blood cells needed a little helping hand.
Morning:
Vit B
Multi V
Zinc - I was always getting ulcers and cold sores.
Milk thistle (mentioned earlier)
Garlic & horseradish
Night:
Garlic tablets
Calcium
Vitamin D
Milk thistle
I did try other concoctions, but the garlic & horseradish worked best for me. The Milk thistle is for my liver, and the calcium is for bone density.

I was diagnosed with mild osteopenia (precursor to osteoporosis) about 4 years ago after I mentioned to the doc that it could be a side-effect, I also have the calcichew which I hope will stave it off - I'm only in my 40s, don't want to be getting osteoporosis yet!! As far as the liver goes, I heard that as it's a drug which is metabolised through the liver it might have an effect - but I'm sure that's only in a minority of cases where the liver is already vulnerable and I'm not a drinker so I hope I'm ok!! Hope all's well

At 1 point I came off 1200 daily of Tegetrol and went to 7200 daily of Nurontin and Tegetrol changed my personality to the point Dr. said your very snappy Nurontin Was doing OK but My Dr. Wanted to switch to keppra 7200 Nurontin to 3000 daily of keppra I thought that was a big miligram difference but my Dr. Said that just shows you how strong keppra is. Along with other medication the longest I've gone with out a seizure is 2 weeks on what I call a seizure day the most I've had is 4 in one day..
Take Care y'all and Let's stay strong !!!!

Tylenol, has an ingredient in in that’s bad for the liver when mixed with Tegertol, be careful Before starting any over the counter medication or vitamin ask doctors or pharmacist if you don’t know, they will look it up. Hugs
