Carbamazepine

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Can Carbamazepine alone treat seizures even after a seizure occurs while on it? I was on Carbamazepine for YEARS and recently, by mistake, drank alcohol and had a seizure. My doctor has since also put me on Keppra.

The carbamazepine effect is cancelled if you put alcohol in your veins. This drug demands that you don't drink. It will ask you to take all the alcohol out before it can work again. I have taken that drug for years, there is no way around it : wonderful drug but not a sip of alcohol. (Now if for my birthday I ignore the rule I know what to expect).
Good luck

I'm on Tegretol XR then they added phenobarbital then Keppra. It's a good mix for me. I rarely Hv a seizure. Just auras every now and again.

In response to Zina, I know drinking is not allowed, but as I said in my reply early on...drinks were not labeled, and should've been.
