Occurrence Of Seizures

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question šŸ’

My question has to do with a seizure occurring. I was just wondering if anyone can feel when a seizure, mostly an absence seizure is about to take place? The reason for me asking is because whenever I have an absence seizure sometimes I may sense it about to happen but most of the time it just comes out of nowhere and when it does I'm lucky to have my wife or others around me. There are also times when I do have tingling in my hands and legs and when that does happen I try to control it so Iā€¦ read more

Sometimes I will get warnings before and sometimes it just happens out of nowhere. The warnings I do get will be I keep getting confused and what I call is "stuck" where I will stare blankly without being able to move for a few seconds and forget to breathe then snap out of it and that can keep reoccurring so I'll take a pill or two - or I'll be very stressed out and get very bad anxiety where I'm shaking non-stop or twitching so I'll take a pill or two. Hoping that by the time it kicks in it'll stop whatever's going on.

There are many people with epilepsy who get a feeling, wierd sensation, smells , hear something that's not there and ect. Those are auras or a warning sign, the you may be going into a seizure. Then there are the many of us like myself, who don't have these warnings or auras. My family and friends will alert me if I had a seizure. There are times when I would bicker or disagree that I had the seizure, but in the back of my head , I know they are right.

Karen,
When I first began having Grand Mal seizures, no auras, nothing. Just came on and I had no idea. It was after the Temporal Lobe Surgeries, I began to have an Aura and Complex Partial seizures also.

When I was young, my seizures were random but when I was 10 to 12 I knew the signs. About all the time I start with a 'space outs' or my legs are frozen. Most of the time I have the 'space outs'. My last frozen legs are about a year and a haft ago. The funny thing is what calms me down is deep breathing and/or alternative rock music!

I usually get auras. They start out with a feeling of being nervous.
