I never gained weight from it . My sturuggles with it made me bed rest. I started with foggy thought and miner balancing issues. Every week I would another pill (Vimpat) while weening off my other pill. It was getting harder and harder each week. I was on my full dose and weened off my other . I was was in the living with my family watching tv. I got up to do something. I took one step out , the next thing I find myself on the floor. I tried to get up , but I just couldn't get up. I then realized I was overdosed . Although I wasn't on the max amount for Vimpat. I crawled my to my bedroom to lay down . My next mistake was when I looked up at the ceiling. When I did that, my whole room felt as if it were spinning. I then closed my eyes and the felling stopped. My wife called the medical hotline to get advice. I stopped taking my Vimpat and went back on my old one that they were weening me off.

I currently take Vimpat and have for about 10 years. My initial reaction to the medication was a lose of appetite. I lost roughly 15 pounds. I gradually started to increase my dosage and lost all my energy. My body could not adjust to the gradual increases recommended by my doctor.
I finally decreased the meds on my own and can only tolerate 300 mg/day. Since adjusting to the medication, my attention and alertness have been great. But I feel the cost of the medication is FAR TOO HIGH. I've had tremendous problems getting my carrier to pay 90% of the cost. I had to send in a complaint with the help from an advocacy group.

End result is my doctor had to write a letter stating that I needed this medicine. My co-payment is still close to $500 every 3 month.

I question if this medication is any better than a generic Epilepsy medicine.
