If You Have The Choice To Hide Your Epilepsy... But Don't... Could You Please Comment?
I'd love to pick your brains on why you decided to do so and how your openness has been received. I'm committed to helping people with epilepsy who now hide it to "come out of the closet." Knowing your experiences could give me the education I need to succeed. Thanks!
For the love of god, do NOT hide your Epilepsy. If you had a seizure in front of others and they did not know what it was, they would not know how to manage the seizure in the proper way. They need to know what it is and how to act if a seizure occurs.
I'm proud of it, I'm always open and have no problem telling my story that I have epilepsy! Proud that I can say I have epilepsy, for how long I've fought it,how many battles I've won,the challenges I've overcome, ddeal with daily, looking at all that and being able to say I've come so far I know I can make it the rest of the way and I'm going to be successful!
I hear you, I'm not embarrassed and I have emotions too, I let my emotions out as they come my way, accordingly. Then there's some people that don't understand and some people that do. I'm not ashamed of having them when they do. My opinion.
Do not hide!!!
I tend to be open about it because I donβt want to waste my time on ignorant and close- minded people. I recently was elected to the board of my synagogue and I shared that information with them. I find it comes up mostly due to the fact that I have been offered invitations to wine tasting events or going out for a drink. When I decline, I explain that I have epilepsy and that alcoholic beverages can bring on a seizure in people, like myself, who have epilepsy.
