Has Anyone Seen A Neuro-endocrinologist? I'm In Canada, And They Seem Rare (if In Existence At All).

Women could benefit from a neuro-endocrinologist (partic those who have catamenial seizures). If I could get a specialist to understand my stomach, I think my seizures would be much better.

They 'do' exist, but I have been unable to find one. I know Dr. Alan Jacobs is a neuro-endocrinologist, but also that he lives in the US (not Canada like me).

I've a friend in Alberta who's a neurologist. She also tells me they exist, but I'm unable to find one in Newfoundland & Labrador. Heck, I'm struggling to see my epileptologist these days (we've only 1 epileptologist in my province)!

I also know that CLAE (Canadian League Against Epilepsy) is having a meeting in NL in September. It will be a true test to see if there are any in Canada. Many specialists 'will' be there - including neuro-endocrinologists if they're in Canada. I volunteer with Epilepsy Newfoundland & Labrador, so I intend to be there.

I'll try to update this in September!

For women w/ catamenial seizures, there's a connection to progesterone and estrogen levels and seizures. I often find neurologists know little/nothing about these connections. Also, endocrinologists often know little about the 'seizure' aspect of hormone irregularity. Neuro-endocrinologists would be knowledgeable on each... but they are rare. Unsure if there are even any in Canada

This is SO helpful!! My seizures are directly linked to my menstrual cycle, and present in a way that is not at all typical to any kind of seizure my doctors have observed. I had no idea that a Neuro-endocrinologists existed.

The pituitary gland is in the brain and this controls most hormones in the body. I have never heard of a Nuero-Endocrinologist didn't even know they existed

No, I didn’t know there was such a thing but I’m definitely checking into it. What is the connection with the brain, the endocrine system, and epilepsy?
