I have always got very different answers about tobacco use and epilepsy. People have said it makes a difference or doesnt, that they lessened their seizures when they stopped smoking or it didnt make a difference. So I thought I would ask here. I have been smoking cigars for about a year and a half now and have a few a week. I assume it has to be better than cigarettes because I dont inhale the smoke I just fill my mouth, and they taste better. Its kind of become somewhat of a hobby for me. The… read more

I used to socially smoke on occasion. Some times i would sneak some of my moms without her noticing. I think since all our brains are wired with epilepsy and epileptics tend to have overractive brains smoking sometimes really does help. Especially if your seizures are stress-related. Even if it is terrible for anyone.

I vape, but have never used actual cigarettes or tobacco. I do use the "juice" with nicotine, but I haven't noticed any difference when I haven't used it or not. I started years after being diagnosed. It didn't seem to increase seizure activity. When I had a video EEG done last year and couldn't use it at all it didn't increase it during the time that I stopped.

I had smoked for about 18 years and thankfully I was able to quit smoking.
When I was a teenager my mother had concerns that smoke cigarettes would have an effect with me having seizure. My doctor said it will not have an effect with my seizure. Of course the doctor tells me that I shouldn’t smoke because it will affect my heath. My lungs

I have smoked cigarettes since I was in my twenties ( almost right at 1 full pack a day some days more some days less ) I am now 51 and have chosen to put down the cigarettes for good I am vaping which I have already started decreasing that as well before 1/1/2025 I will quit that as well as to do I see any change as of yet no but I have only 3 weeks ... And I am still getting the nicotine so who's to say .. I get told by my doctors each visit that I need to quit smoking ( ps they all have the same comment after those words and it's is .. " I'm required to tell you that") so I'll be interested if it does or doesn't make an effect .. I'll share if I see anything effects from it towards my seizure activity
