Took Too Much Medicine?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Orlando, FL

I accidently Took double of medicine yesterday. I am waiting for pharmacy to open. Has this happened to anyone else? I take 250mgs keppra, 100mgs lamotrigine and 100mgs vimpat twice daily. I took accidently aound 2 hours apart for my evening dose (9). Should I take my normal this morning or wait until evening dose. I felt dizzy last nite and slept around 5 hours. Still groggy and off balance this a.m. but no auras. Gonna sleep all day if I can. Has anyone had this happen?

I was told by my neurologist that if you miss a dose and it is close to your next dose to just wait until next dose. But if you overdosed. Call your doctor. Don't take another dose.

Hi John,
Can you believe that for awhile there I had to also handle my mother's meds while in hospice. I'm feeling alot better now. I was feeling really bad for a minute there. When I laid down my stomach and pounding head felt better. Thank you for your advice! I learned my lesson.

Thank you Ashley! I called pharmacist who said the exact same thing
She just said push the time a little back. So instead of nine I took at 11. Still feeling dizzy and off balance so I'm taking it easy all day

I have only made this mistake once and is indeed serious. I take keppra and lacosamide (generic for Vimpat). First it is important for me to set my alarm to my preferred 12 hour interval, if your alarm has the option to set it to "every day mode" it is an advantage, this is hugely important to me.
I take liquid forms of both because I have trouble swallowing pills since my TBI. The day I took double I woke up after what I call my seizure med nap. It was horrific, and hard to describe but I was very panicked, dizzy, my balance was bad once I got to my feet.
What I do to avoid this is keep a regular letter sized sheet of paper on the fridge with a magnet. On it, every day I use a black marker and write at the very top: "Rx", and the date. To the left of the page I write the names of each med with a colon after the med name. After taking each med I write time I took it ie: 7 in the morning is 7a after taking the med I write a check mark after the 7a. I can fit 4 days of this info. on one letter-sized sheet. Everyone is different, but this has worked for several years for me. I screwed up because of other major stressful events at the time. I really hope this helps you.

Hi Bryan
Thanks! I have one and usually pretty good but due to circumstances I had some pills with me and took those, then got home and thought I forgot to take them. Talking to pharmcist about the dosage issue since it's Sunday and I don't feel bad enough to go to emergency.
