Vimpat Side Effect?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been having double vision which is an expected side effect, but when it was doing it this morning I decided to check my BP. It was very high. 180/102. It was taken manually. I take a low dose BP medicine. I had already taken it along with my other medications earlier. I don't see anything that lists that as a side effect. Has anyone else had this happen? Or maybe it was an isolated incident. I did have my BP rechecked at work after i sat for about 10 minutes, manual also. It was 132/98… read more

Vimpat is quite a drug. When I was on it I developed blurred and double vision which was one of the side effects that comes with this drug along with uncontrolled shaking of the body. Both are normal with this drug. There was a time when seeing my neurologist there were 2 different BP readings within a 5 minute span. Except for me, vimpat was also giving me irregular PVC readings. I think I only developed 7 out of a possible 15 side effects. According to another person, BP variations are normal.

I had a tonic clonic in July after changing over to Vimpat... Weaning off Tegretol still (in my 10th week) and new medication and changing dosages blew my record of no seizures for 24 months... No dizziness but headaches and drowsiness... Only 2 weeks to go till Tegretol is off my list... So far so good on Vimpat!

I took myself off Vimpat also. Eek that was horrible! I was exhausted, my vision and balance was off, and I just felt completely off. I will never take that again.
My dr was upset I stopped on my own (dangerous), but I cut my dose in 1/2 for a week first. She was understanding.
Talk to your dr.
