A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I often have seizures when im in the car when my parents are driving. It’s 50/50 because i will shout out or i will hide away and try do it myself, no matter how bad it is. Just wondered how people deal with their seizures when going into a car.

It sounds like you have anxiety driving. Dont panic just breathe, also dont go on long rides until you learn how to defeat these symptoms. I used to get like that everytime i walked into a store or market, one time i ran out of the store and left my full basket. I went to tge car where my mom was waiting for me and took a few deep breathes repeatedly telling myself im not going to allow my condition to live for me, im going to live with. I walked back into the store retrieved my basket and paid for my goods. I believe you can overcome your fear, im sure your already doing your part by taking your medication. Remember one day at a time, you got this!

I have seizures in the car , more than once . But , it doesn’t matter where I’m at or,what I’m doing . My seizures can happen at anytime and place . There can reasons for the seizure . But other time they will hit me out of the blue.

For me, being in a car is a safe environment. Rarely am in one. But it is safe for me. I don't have grand mals. Maybe that explains it.
There was one time I was coming home from a French codependants anonymous
meeting with a member of that meeting by car. Front seat. And I had that petit mal seizure which was going on when I got home. No dice with that dude. He just wanted me out despite continuing seizure symptoms. So I got out and took care of myself at home. But that is a different kind of personality which was self centered for whatever reason. An exception to the rule where epilepsy was concerned. But why complain? If he let me stay in his car until the seizure ended then I would have thanked him because it was his car and my Epilepsy symptoms kept him from getting home yet he graciously waited for my seizure to end. Something he did not have to do. Well he did not do it and I did not have to thank him for acting humanely. His loss.
