For Those Who Have Had A VNS Put In, My Friend Wants To Know What Is Normal For Afterwards?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lakeville, MA

She posted the following about her experience since her VNS was put in yesterday:

VNS Put In Yesterday
Is it normal to have your uvula ( the thing that hangs in the back of your throat) to hang down and to touch the back of my tongue? It was not like this yesterday. I don't know if it is just swollen or what.

Can any of you who have had a VNS put in answer this question so I can share with her?

Diane K,
You should never be embarrassed. I had 2 Temporal Lobe Surgeries and yet there I am still having the seizures. Just think how proactive You are to stop making the purple Gremlins go away for EVER!!.💜😘

At Your next appointment find out if the strength of the pinch can be adjusted to a lower level. If it can then do that. Other people cannot tell You/decide how strong this pinch can be. It's Your body!

Remember something, if the medication You are taking now does not really "work" for You there are more medications for You to try in the future, and there is no doubt new ones are being created right now. Consider Yourself brave to have/get a vns implanted. I have been told by others the vns works perfectly for them. So keep a positive attitude it will work. Good Luck!

It has been sometime since I had mine put in also replacement when time came. I never was disapointed in having it done. Just the adjustment took me time of having it, my voice changing when it went off. Plus the odd feeling where it was, when went off.

I have a VNS and my uvula that hangs down n the bck of my throat is very short. It sounds to me, there may be a side effect frm the medication that was used during the procedure. If it continues to stay the same, contact ur doctor on Monday morning.
