I have probably mentioned this before. Has anyone ever experienced Awake brain surgery and were the results positve. I have been referred to another hospital for assessment to have this procedure. Its where they do a craniotomy and apply electrodes on the brain to map where seizures are coming from. you are asleep for all that part then woken up so they are able to do the diagnostics Asking question etc. The do what they have to do Then knock you out and put the flap back in and sew you up. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I don't know but I do know I'm a right brain because the damage is on the left and I'm left handed so if you're right handed the left side of brain controls that right side. its the opposite of what hand you are . I'm sure that others are the opposite to what the books say
All my seizures are coming from left side and that's why my right side twitches shakes. If you have a clonic tonic that's because the electricals start on in my case left side then continue to travel across to the other side so whole brain is affected. I do have to say since the Dr has fiddled with medication its controlling the seizures much better and maybe I don't need to have it. That's my way of thinking probably wrong but I can dream

For me, they put me out, cut open my head, drilled, sawed and removed the skull then woke me up. They started asking me to count to 25 and in the meantime, they deadened a cell in the brain. If I could count to 25, they knew they could remove that cell. If not, they marked it so they would go around it. Then they put me back to sleep. When all was said and done, they removed a 3-inch cube of my brain, put the skull back where they found it, stapled the skin back in place and sent me to ICU.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member it turned out after all the test too many red flags came up so I never got an operation and I’m just on pills my epilepsy is uncontrollable so it’s pills I settle with and getting used to having seizures most of the time they don’t bother me as much x x

Brigitte, it takes a special person with a lot courage to make a decision like this. And you will be better afterwards. When i was about to have my ablation surgery, for some strange i wasn't stressed about it. I felt like i was going for a MRI and was calm about it. Believe everything will be fine. The surgery will be a success. Don't worry, Every little thing gonna be alright! Take care.

No its not that procedure I've been told Its a full on crani expose the brain put all these electrodes then they will play with them that's why you need to be awake. they will ask you to count stick your hand up whatever so if its the area they're looking for you wont be able to do what they asked. when they do this surgery to remove tumours and you go gah gah they know not to touch. who knows maybe when I go for the assessment they might decide to do that. My dr said they might have some new wonder drug. Im sure they don't he would already know if they have. I'm pretty sure he was trying to calm me and stop me saying " r u absolutely sure" every 2 mins
