Many Different Aura Presentations

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Canberra, AU

I have had many different auras from Deja vu, numbness, taste to feeling I am on a fun ride and I have clusters of the same one and then they change to something I haven't experienced before. I have learnt that auras are seizures. Would they be classified as different types of seizures. looking back I find These days they don't seem to be a warning that I know of or I'm just not aware of anything happening other than these auras. No Tonic clonics

Your dog sounds very similar to a therapy dog. Ur lucky to have him there for comfort, he loves u & is making sure ur ok.
My cat does the same w/me after a seizure she sleeps w/me for hrs until she knows l’m ok. She sleeps & never leaves my side up against me on my bed bc the seizure as we all know makes a person extremely tired & drained afterwards & it can last for hrs or days.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Unfortunately, as I learned from research in medical books back when I was working at Treadwell Library at Massachusetts General Hospital and from personal experience, simple partial seizures (auras), as well as, complex partial seizures and general full seizures (not sure with regards to the specific forms of full seizures) can mutate and add additional types of auras (I sometimes get a stomach aura that resembles a punch to the gut). And, in the case of Complex partial and full seizures. I was having mostly full seizures (viewed as fainting spells back in the early 1980s when I was in high school, but they shifted to Complex partial seizures by the time that I was in college and from 1985 until 2003 (the pharmacist's error followed by neurologist's errors was probably a factor for the change in 2003) to the variations of complex partial seizures and full seizures. And then at some time after that I had my first complex partial seizure without an accompanying aura. And since then, I never have auras with complex partial seizures and full seizures.

Of course, since May 17th, I have not had another complex partial seizure or full seizure and my simple partial seizures are much less frequent and simple partial seizure barrages are extremely rare.

Just realize that change/mutation is a reality with Epilepsy/Seizure Disorders. It is another one of the bitter realities (like a lifetime on medications for most of us and others who cannot get rid of the seizures with medications and even multiple brain surgeries).

For those of us, who manage to get into a seizure free period (I don't count simple partial seizures as an obstruction to my seizure free state because they are annoying but do not put me at risk or are a threat to my life}, you have to understand that we are in the category with a recovered alcoholic in that we are currently not having them (and they are not getting drunk) but one trigger (or in their case just one small taste of alcohol) and seizure free can be all over -- regardless of how long one has been seizure free (not an active alcoholic).

Yes. They are mini seizures.
I did a search on the word “Simple partial seizure” and got so much information I wrote it down for my wife so she would know.
Even smelling a foul odor when no one does is a simple partial seizure. I ask others, “ do you smell that, or is it just me?” Much love-Jeff

Possibly simple partials.
