Hi Have Any Of You Guys Had Temporal Lobectomy Surgery? If So What Is Outcome And Was It Successful
In October 1984, I had a Right Temporai Lobe Resection - same thing I'm sure. The "tip" of the right hippocampus was the "focus" to be removed. On doctors directions, I continued my 4 "E" meds for another 7 months and continued on Depekote for another 4 years "prophylactic." I did experience two pre-convulsive episodes 2 months after my surgery. I have been Medication free for 34years and seizure free since the surgery. I was 35 at the time.
All the Best on your decision.
Thank you so much for asking this question as I’m in the very same situation.Although I love my doctors I don’t want to jump the gun on “the next big thing” I gained a lot of information from this and just appreciate you asking
After approximately 18 years of trying all sorts of medications and treatments to control intractable daily / weekly temporal lobe seizures and approximately monthly grand mal seizures, I made the decision for a 2 week work up ( in 1988), which was followed with a left temporal lobectomy. Basically lived in the Epilepsy Center at the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta, GA) for 4 weeks.
All in all, the surgery was a success, and I highly recommend it as a treatment.
I am still taking some meds, and have very infrequent auras but have been able to live for 35 years in a managed state without the same level of concerns I had before the surgery.
I highly recommend considering the surgery, but review the hospital and Epilepsy Clinic.
I had surgery to remove scarred tissue from the left temporal lobe in April 1987. My last seizure was the day before the surgery. I have been totally off medicine since the end of 1992. The only after-effect of the surgery is my right eyelid is slightly closed which effects my peripheral vision.
I had a lobectomy to my right front in 2008. No meds or concoction of them were controlling my seizures at all. I had one seizure a couple years after. I am still on meds as a precaution, I do have seizure activity still on my eeg's. And feel tingling in my left hand and foot. I'm told these are sensory seizures. I don't lose feeling or black out. I have a cognitive decline since the surgery, my processing has slowed, and my memory is not good either.
