Driving Laws/reporting In Michigan

Hi, I only recently had a seizure (I’m 35) and the Dr. did not need to report it to the DMV in Michigan. Because I already had a license and it wasn’t revoked does anything need to happen after I’m 6 months seizure free or can I just go back to driving? Do I need to report it to anyone? To my car insurance company? Everything I’m reading seems to be about people who had seizures before they had a license and are now trying to apply. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you recently had a sezuire and then went 6 month sezuire free having a license you can just go back to driving. If you have a sezuire and go less than 6 months sezuire free you have to start from when you had the sezuire to 6 months say if you went 5 months you have to start from there Making it month #1. Am in Michigan and that what I had to do until mine became so unpredictable and uncontrolled and shifted so much I was put on disability and had my license pulled.

In Ky you have to report you have epilepsy to your insurance company or they may not respect a claim. You also can't drive for 90 days . Be seizure free for 90 days, report it the state and after 90 days have your neurologist verify that you are safe to drive. Good luck! David353

I definitely get that and appreciate your reply. I’ve got a wife and two young boys that I need to provide for and that will most likely require me to drive. Also living in Michigan, biking and walking is not always an option in the colder months.

Everyone has to make up their own decision on that. Personally, even if I eventually could drive, I wouldn't. The possibility of me having a seizure breakthrough and killing myself or another is a pain I could not bear, ESPECIALLY IF I'M DEAD. 🤔

Hi!
So I live in NYS. My neurologist reports it to DMV and they send me a letter saying my license has been revoked. After 6 months my neurologist decided whether or not I am able to drive. After a while I get scared to drive.

Once a year my neuro has to fill out a paper from DMV on my seizures and if I am medically able to drive.

I have never had to let my insurance company know

I hope this helps.
