Has Your Brain (most Likely Because Of Epilepsy) Lied To You?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lakeville, MA

I am not talking about during a seizure. I remember in the past times where my brain did not show me what was really before my eyes. And recently I have learned that my brain also creates false memories as well. And it might even be creating physical pain or suddenly (I am currently in a seizure-free state). Has this happened to you without a seizure too?

Lol I'm told a lot. That I don't remember that. Does that count. But my friend Tim said I had a mind like a Steele trap when we were talking about thirty years ago. I could recall even word for word what we were talking about. Weird as it was but it was one funny night too. I still laugh when I think about it.

Although I have no answe for you I'm glad you asked this question.
It reminds us of the variety of memory difficulties that can be experienced after a seizure.

No I don't think so. I do remember a lot of what happened to me before and after my seizure. I just don't know what happened during my one and only seizure as an adult. My husband told me what I was doing during my seizure. After I drilled him about it.

I have felt things may have happened before, but I do not feel it is "lying".

Just remember, just like cancer and the other major disorders, we are not cured, thus we might have another seizure triggered by a very powerful emotional moment (death of a very close loved one for example), however, most people who reach a long-term seizure free state can get back to it.
