Would You Feel 'repulsed' If You Saw Me Have A Grand Mal (tonic Clonic, Generalised) Seizure?
Please feel free to respond honestly, I won't take offence.
I mentioned before about my friends son who went into status epilepticus while in his student accommodation..none of the guys thought of the midazolam in the moment and he ended up in an induced coma for 3 weeks...every time they tried to take him out of it the seizure activity would start - it seriously was horrendously worrying at one point whether he'd make it out of it without brain damage.
To think that one dose of meds could possibly have prevented that situation....
Really, through all the conversations, thanks to @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member for instigating a truly relevant 👏 discussion, people are not educated about the epilepsies at all, I for one think this needs to change. Why is it that some people choose to look at vicious wars and crimes on tv but can be repulsed by a neurological condition. Where is the compassion? You can say, when you see war in the Ukraine, those poor people..and I agree, and I feel for them, I can't imagine what they're going through...we see them as a collective, a nation of people suffering but when you see someone suffering beside you or in the supermarket or in the street, why can't the same compassion be there for the 1 individual?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Exactly! People need to see somethings if seizure goes on over 5 minutes and no one knows what’s going on and doesn’t do anything that’s loss of life when it could’ve been prevented if someone standing knew what to do.
I know it's scary, my daughter was great when she lived with me - she was so used to them but when I had one at work well one of the guys I know got such a fright - he told me after that it was terrible to see me like that, that he thought i was going to die but I think that's kinda why people should be educated about all the different types - and see them by video. I was thinking about it after someone posted last night and I am curious to see what I'm like in a seizure - while I might get a bit of a fright, at least I'd be able to finally see what I've never been able to see and what others see. Thanks for your honesty @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member 😉
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I know where you're coming from re meds and the tolerance levels - I guess that's something we all just have to get on with and just take day by day and smile that yep, all was good 👍 😊
Ah I don't know, in an ideal world everything would fall into place, lots of 'if's' and 'buts' though eh?
Very thoughtful, Laura. And my goodness I have never heard of such a horrendous situation with status epilepticus as what you have told of your friend. Thank you for sharing that story. I will be much more likely to remember my rescue medicine when I leave the house and to provide instruction to those I am with. Thank you. 💐🌹😍
