Lots Of Problems With Keppra Doc Is Switching Me To Vimpat What Kinds Of Issues Can I Expect With Vimpat?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Everyone can have different reactions to different medications. What works for one person might not work for another. But Keppra & Dilantin are 2 meds that many people have similar reaction to. The symptoms you mentioned many of us have experienced, myself I experienced the awful tiredness & eventually I started having trouble sleeping at night but I was only it for 2 months & so I didn’t experience the mood swings but others on the site have & Dilantin many have experienced dental issues including my Dad. But besides those issues, normally meds don’t effect everyone the same. There’s not always one med that works miracles. Your doctor is one could do tests & see what might be helpful for you. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I started Vimpat in 2019 & I was taking 100mg, 1 pill twice a day. I remember having blood work done & it showed that my blood level for my Vimpat was low. After one of my seizures my Neurologist increased my Vimpat but I don’t by how much or when the dosage times were for but I think it was increased by 100mg & I soon started experiencing a little shaking in my fingers & so I told my doctor that I couldn’t take that extra dosage. In January 2023 I had a seizure & she increased the night dosage by 50mg & so now I take 150mg at night & still 100mg in the morning. I haven’t had any problems since the small increase in January. I took Keppra for 2 months in 2019 that a Neurology Nurse Practioner put on & it made me so tired that I had to take a nap every day & eventually I started having trouble sleeping at night & so I got off it. Good luck & Welcome to the site. Your friend in Texas, Becky
Kathy, I have had no side effects, I was switched to Vimpat in 2012 and to the generic version in 2022, no side effects. I take 150 mg twice a day. Been seizure free from the start. Good luck to you.
For me Vimpat effected my balance and made my insomnia worse. I'm on a prescription sleeping pill. For balance it could vary between actually having trouble walking down to shifting your weight down from walking "normally" with your weight across your feet normally to the outside or inside of your feet.
As I understand it these are the most common side effects. But no grand mal seizures, so its working.
