15 Mins Late!

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does he have to take his meds exactly at 7am and 7pm?

My son is on Keppra and Depakote. He takes his meds 7am and 7pm daily. I didn’t realize the time this evening and he took his meds 15 mins late. I’m freaking out!

It is best for anyone with Epilepsy stay on schedule ( or close to it ) . Not following the schedule can possibly trigger the seizure(s) .

Karen don't worry. I asked my friend who is a doctor and she said you up to 2 hours.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Don’t worry about it. A few minutes late probably won’t hurt. I don’t take my meds at a specific time, I just take my morning pills early sometime in the day after eating something & then in the evening I take my night pills. But there are others who take meds at a certain time. Everyone is different. But it likely won’t be a problem if he takes his meds a few minutes late. Again, I encourage you to reach out to your local Epilepsy Foundation that I gave you some information about & you can look for a parent support group that they might offer. Sending prayers that you can relax. Your friend in Texas, Becky

15 minutes late is better than skipping multiple doses. In some cases, if other meds are to be taken as well(that are not AEDs)then usually the AEDs are to be taken either an hour before, or an hour after.
