Anyone Else Have Seizures Immediately Upon Waking Up?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Eden, GA

Sometimes, a lot of the time I will have a seizure as soon as I get up from sleeping. Doesn't matter what time. Most of the time they are just focal seizures and vary in intensity. Sometimes though they are a lot worse, Grand Mal.

Ugh ☚ī¸ that sounds horrible! Especially being in that state and being able to hear everything, etc. with everything being so amplified in aura state I can only imagine, (but definitely don't like to.) I'm sorry you have to go through all that BS! Auras alone are absolute hell! I've had some while awake, but I always go fully unconscious. & Meds, I wish there was something that would just stop it all!!! 🙁 I've been on Keppra and for some reason it made me insanely anxious. I only take limotrogine as of now. I'm not a fan.... But... *Shrug*

(I thought I replied to this already 😂 apparently not. Lol)

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I think I need to take your advice and cut down on the caffeine. It is SO hard though. Lol I love my coffee!! & Get some more exercise as well.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I feel ya!!! I HAVE to have some kind of white noise. I usually sleep with a fan sounds. (I broke my fan lol) and can't sleep in the dark either. You're not alone!!! With me though, it seems as though I have more auras than nocturnal seizures.

I take my meds exactly 12 hours apart. I have alarms plus my daughters make sure to remind me.
I wish I could sleep both well and without some type of noise or light in my room. I have really bad tinnitus so I have to have noise in my room so that I can sleep. I can pretty much sleep through anything considering the amount of medication I am on.
I also have really bad insomnia and will doze off if I just stop moving and try to rest.
I have discussed with my doctor and we have not been able to come up with any fixes. I also have to sleep with a black light on because having a seizure in the dark terrifies me. Well all seizures do tbh. But I was just wondering if any others had the same issue.
I have tbi, brain lessions, and have had part of my brain removed to try to reduce seizure activity.

I actually have nocturnal seizures (grand mal) that are triggered when I wake up & try to go back to sleep..( like rolling over, looking at phone, using bathroom, etc. Not too long after, I wake up in postictal state. It's horrible! đŸĢ¤ Seemingly for no reason other than waking up and trying to get back to sleep. Do you have issues sleeping? I have pretty bad insomnia.

Yeah Keppra makes me really aggressive and agitated. But I can handle it. Tegretol XR side effects are super rough. I've been on limotrogine before, actually been on most of the seizure medications at one point or another. I have intractable epilepsy. So once I finally find a med that helps we have to go up super high on the dosage just to see an improvement.
