Although my question doesn't necessarily coincide with Epilepsy it could initially as a coping or channeling mechanism.

Yes, but not as a channeling
/ coping mechanism.
poetry & wisdom books of the Bible those being:
Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, & Lamentations.

I also have several books of old that I haven't looked at or read in awhile until you asked the question.
Ivanhoe, is another good book to read.

It actually does coincide with Epilepsy because anything that is a coping or channeling mechanism is important for us to have to assist in keeping away seizures AND also to help us to keep calm (bring positive emotions and keep the negative emotions away). And it can also help us with memory recall of memories which are hard to get access to because each of us needs to find things that will increase our chances of recalling memories. So the questions that you need to ask yourself are: Do you know how you learned that it was a coping mechanism for you? Does reading poetry bring back any memories that are associated with the specific poem? Poetry, music and any other calming (distracting our thinking about seizures, source of positive emotions, and/or means of getting our minds to recall a memory can come from a specific poem, song, or hobby). Yes, poetry has had been a calming mechanism for me (as long it is specific poems). And specific poems are also a means to access memories that are harder to recall by any other means.

The same role is a song, craft, specific book, etc. because I might have a specific memory attached to a certain song that can be brought out by hearing the song. And for someone who has lost a direct line to the memories of love with any loved one(s) can also trigger memories associated with a specific song, poem, book --or even a chapter or important phrase in a book. The key thing to realize is that any of these can have multiple roles for us as individuals with each of our own epilepsy and own memories. Just remember that there are some that will be the source of negative emotions and might even be a possible trigger for a seizure too. Reading some specific poems will have dual roles for me.
Are there any specific poems that you love so much that they have the same dual role for you? Any specific songs, stories or even a line from a poem or song that have a dual role for you?
