Here It Is: Should I Get Genetic Testing? Finished My EEG, And I Did Not Throw Any Weird Brainwave. My EEG Brain Is “normal”.
Should I get genetically tested because I’m not throwing weird brainwaves after my EEG. Pros/cons? My dad never had abnormal brain waves during and EEG either. Is it worth it to get tested and find out you might be getting really sick with something else (worse) and get another diagnosis w/better meds or not and not worry about it? Knowing is scary.
I guess so. I’ll track my son as well-seeing as my epilepsy seems to have a straight line through the family.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Genetic testing with epilepsy is still a pretty new thing any way so you may not get much out of it. As of now they only really do it for specific gene causes or gene abnormalities. But the testing as far as I know is mainly done with children and as of now can only be done when looking for specific causes. So they would still have to have a fair idea of what it may be before they did it other wise they may be just jumping in to a haystack to find a needle. In other words they have to narrow things down before they do it.
We know some people, but haven’t bitten the bullet. My seizures seem to be inherited, and my father’s eeg never had spikes either. I’ve had long eegs, and short ones. No spikes. I’m worried it might be a missing enzyme or gene.
Unless it was something that would help then probably not. In other words You would be better off with some kind of activity on the eeg first beforehand. Otherwise it probably won’t be worth it. Probably better with a longer eeg.
I've read your post and think that is something you are going to have decide. Is there an expert available for you to get advice from,?
