Photosensitive Epilepsy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Recently I’ve had 2-3 seizure brought on by the brightness of the sun. My 1st thought was how can something as beautiful as the sun cause so much pain?Lately I’ve started putting my head down when outside just to avoid the direct light from hitting my eyes particularly after sunrise. I’ve never been diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy but I do know that your pattern of seizures can change over time. Has anyone else experienced this and did wearing darker lenses glasses help with this?

Look up method sevens growing sunglasses. They block out the LED that messes with your eyes when photosensitive. Won't stop it completely but will help a lot. They look like this and are around 100-300 bucks. They're for people who are in grow rooms and have really powerful lights. Lenses pop out so easy to replace and frames don't break easy. People use them for growing herb. Was a picture of them but for some reason it's gone now. I spaced out the link a bit. These are the type for it.

Any light that flickers. If you go in and out of light. The light must be steady. You should never go to the movies. You should not watch tv in the dark. You should not use a computer.

I've worn sunglasses when going outside for almost 25years now. The light(when in or outside), always used to trigger a seizure. I couldn't look at a computer screen at all until I was 25 due to light. Even now looking at one I'm cautious.
When I was in highschool the largest trigger point in my brain was in my occipital lobe. I had it removed. My photosensitivity is now almost gone. I still have other seizures due to other trigger points I have in my brain.
I still wear sunglasses because my eyes are more sensitive to light due to my surgery, but it only causes a seizure now maybe 1-5% of the time.
*Please don't rush out and have brain surgery! This was not a decision made lightly!!! There was a lot of thought, research, and other stuff done to make sure that's what I wanted to do.
I hope this helps you.

I have an autoimmune disease. I see the specialist next month. I know the sun usually bothers me more in the last few years. I never thought of connecting it with the epilepsy.
