Electrode Implantation Eeg.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Walnut Creek, CA

My doctor and team have decided the best next step for me would to have a intracranial grid electrode implantation eeg. Has anyone had the same procedure done? I have yet to decide on when I want to do this since I am pretty nervous. any advice would be appreciated

In 1998 I had a grid EEG and GRID mapping ,done in the hospital. They were preparing me for the Left Temporal Lobe surgery

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I have a VNS also, going on 2 years now with no success so this is the next step and I will most likely have my VNS taken out at some point. I’m so happy that the VNS worked for you !

Just gonna say I had the VEEG done. They found the problem, removed it and I'm 23+ years seizure-free.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, thank you for taking the time to explain. I have had a few 48-hour video EEGs, with no activity. I hope that this one works or it's on to step two.
I'm sure that you must be very frustrated at this point. It's very easy for people to say that they would never have brain surgery when their seizures are under control with medication. But when it's your last option, it's your last option. I support you and your decisions. If you need to chat, I am here for you 💜.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , when they did my Grid and EEG,they already knew where most of my seizure activity was. They put the Grid electrodes in first. They cut open my skull , where most of the activity was and placed it on that part of the brain. Then they stapled the skull back in place..

Then when I was brung back to the EEG center and glued the electrodes to the top of my head. The connected both to the EEG system.

They were able to map the precise area the seizures were . For me, the EEG lasted for a full week.while reducing my meds. This doesn’t mean , that it will take you this long , for you. It took me them awhile to get any large seizures from me. I was SSI having seizures, but they weren’t big enough nor long seizures. So they couldn’t get my brain mapped out. My brain was fighting in survival mode. The Dr. And staff were getting frustrated.
