Anyone Remember The Old Days When An EEG Was Performed Using Needles?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

So far I've seen three different approaches to an EEG. Nowadays they glue them to your head. About 30 years ago I had a nurse rub my head raw with what felt like sandpaper and then glue it. But back in the early days of epilepsy, they had a dozen needles they stuck in your head. I remember it felt like they grabbed about 4-5 strands of hair and pulled them. It never hurt pulling them out. Sorry if you didn't care to hear this kind of stuff but I just can't forget it.

I had never heard of that. Glad we have moved forward.

I wonder if they were more accurate or picked up seizures that were deeper than one inch below the surface.

I was diagnosed back in the 60s when they used the needles and I much prefer them over the glue on electrodes.

@MargeryHarrpo. It wasn't drilled holes it Was just needles in to the scalp. The Drilled holes technology has only been used the last 20 years if that.
