A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
New Bedford, MA

Has anyone had the RNS device removed ?? I had to have mine removed because of an infection. I was told if the RNS is not replaced I would need cranioplasty. I’m afraid of having the device put back in and getting another infection.

Thanks for the reply. I wish that was the only reason mine was removed.
I wish you a good night. :)

I'm set up for the stereo eeg and scheduled for the rns device. I'm considering canceling both appointments and deal with the seizures, wait or look for different treatments. My lack of family and support lead me into falling into the arms of my neurologist and epilepsy clinic. I have to remember they are paid to be there for me.
My fear is mostly from the chance for Infection. It's your choice as you know but maybe consider where your support is coming from. If you have a lack of friends and family around consider acknowledgement of this might change your prospective.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member A few things to point out here, the RNS is attached to the Skull not the brain, so the infection is more than likely not related to brain. It probably could be fixed it just depends on what the infection is like.

I would not take a second chance. You only have one brain 🧠. The first time proved to not work the best for You. Since You are asking others for their opinion it sounds like You have more doubt then positive thoughts. So my guess is Your doubt answers the question. My opinion again would be not to take a chance. Don’t do it again-You have the security nothing bad will happen to You. Best of Luck to You. 😄

Actually it was the RNS-300 they removed and the RNS-320 they replaced it with. The battery in the RNS-320 is supposed to last over twice as long. It was just an outpatient procedure so I got to go home the same day. You have a nice night too
