Just Started Zonisamide.

I just started taking zonisamide yesterday. It is in addition to phenobarbital and lamotrigine. If you have had experience with zonisamide, please let me know, especially if it is a secondary or tertiary medication. I am also interested in side effects.

I take it but I don't get any side effects it usually depends on the person I think however I am on three different types of epilepsy meds I am told supposed to be on two types only because more could be dangerous for the person. But I take 4 at night also 1 of the lamotrigine at morning n at night along with 2 Keppra at morning n night. Plus a sleeping medication n mental health type med I have to take sometimes also muscle relaxers. Hope any of that information helps on what I take on epilepsy helps u out.

When my doctor put me on Lamotragine, they took me off of Phenobarbitol. They said the medicines were for the same purpose and I only needed one, not both of them!

Mary Zonimade is 1 of 3 Depakote, and Kepra is the other 2 meds. I have been on on this combination with little change for over 18 years. I get my levels checked twice a year. Hopefully you find the combo that works for you. ericthom3

Hi Mary. I am currently on 250mg lamotrogine (Lamictal) bi-daily and 350mg zonisamide (Zonegran) once daily in the evening. Seizures down from 20-60 per year when I was on lamotrigine/lacosamide combination to 5 per year now so definitely better but now completely controlled. Side effects much better too (I had chronic anxiety on lacosamide and double vision when down titrating off of it). Generally much more clear headed. Neurologist wants to add cenobamate now to see if I can get complete seizure freedom but, in terms of a current combination of ASMs, I can say that it has worked very well for me!
