Is Epilepsy Genetic? The Chances of Inheriting Epilepsy Read Article...
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

RandySherman genes are something that we need to pay attention to. If you know something is wrong and you continue to make the choice it is not fair to the child. You have sentenced them. This is treatable but if you don't share it this is something that the children never have to expereince it. This is why it is vital. What you are preposing is like a person that says they continue to steal and take drugs because they never got caught. When the system catches up to them and they have consiquences they are suddenly upset but this is part of life. Every choice wee make has consequences we have to think about that not ignore it.

I was never worried about it. Three people in my big family had it. Besides me, it was an aunt and a cousin and they weren't mother/daughter.

RandySherman they may not get it but they are still carriers if you got it from the genes. This is something that families forget. The more they pass them down the more the next generation get the mess. This is why my cousins all got the long-term consiquences. This is not something that majically disappears. This is just a recessive gene and when they marry someone with the dominate the recessive comes out. The gene is still passed many times. This needs to be told to your children so when the epilepsy comes out in their children's kids there is not shock!!!

It is possible that a family member can inherit Epilepsy from the parent, that has Epilepsy. But it is also possible ,that child of the parent with Epilepsy , may not inherit it. There is a 3% - 5% of the child inheriting the condition.

I have Epilepsy and 2 daughters. Neither of them have Epilepsy.
