RNS
I need an opinion…. I had the RNS implanted the beginning of this year. I ended up getting an infection with MRSA so I had the area in my head flushed and cleaned. The infection lasted so I had the device removed
The doctors want me to get a new one implanted , it scares me a lot because that is an awful bacteria.
Part of me does NOT WANT that device replaced in case the infection returns and could kill me…….the other thought is how much I originally wanted the device.
I would like some… read more
Thank you VERY MUCH !!!
To me if this is something your really afraid of and definitely don't want them be upfront with them and let them know about and tell them your concerns. They need to know the concerns of all their patients so it's important you tell them everything even it seems small or big you need to bring it up other wise it could build up and cause something to happen. So I would just suggest talk to them on how you feel on all this due to how things are going especially with what happened last time.

I’m sorry to hear about the infection and bacteria. I had my first RNS removed when the battery died. They put a more updated RNS in my head. It was a pretty simple in and out procedure to have my first device removed and replaced. So it’s OK to have one device taken out and replaced. But it’s your call when it comes to the infections. I’ve never had any infections from my RNS. Good luck.
I can't really speak about the infection but the device itself is pretty good. I would probably ask what exactly happened last time? And if they say "you got an infection say why? I would like to know how it happened? Once you find that out, then you ask them how do you plan on making sure this doesn't happen next time.
I would consult an entirely different neurosurgeon (well respected) to get their impressions about your first experience, and advice about a second procedure. You may decide to bring some of your past records. But you might also decide to use the first neurosurgeon, depending upon the recommendation of the new one.
