It's understandable to feel confused or concerned if your family suspects you may be experiencing psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) instead of epilepsy. PNES can closely resemble epileptic seizures, so it is often initially misdiagnosed. Getting an accurate diagnosis is important. To help determine if you have PNES or epilepsy, your doctor can perform tests like an EEG video monitoring to record your brain waves and movements during an episode. This can clearly show whether abnormal electrical activity in the brain is causing your seizures. If not, that points to PNES being the cause. Remember that you are not alone in this journey. Over 100,000 people with seizures are members of MyEpilepsyTeam, providing support and understanding for one another. Reach out if you need someone to talk to who gets it.

I finally have a new doctor and epilepsy clinic that I will be going to in November and I am going to write down my thoughts and bring it up with him. My previous doctors who removed 98% of the 3 neuroepithelial cysts from my right front temporal lobe wanted to remove my entire right temporal lobe to stop the seizures. I refused and I was refused to be followed by their clinic and they dropped me in late 2018.

I think sometimes that I suffer from it. My doctor does not. I am going to believe in my doctor. BUT, I will say that when I read the information and the symptoms, mine sound the same. Normal MRIs, Normal EEGs, it begins to make a person wonder. I would say if your doctor says no, the go with their diagnosis. It is stressful enough, get an appointment with your doctor.

My family has gone through lessons on Epilepsy first aid. They don't care if it's real or PNES. You have a seizure, they respond. Very accepting. You want to share them? I have more than enough of them to go around. I literally have a cousin in all 50 states (2nd cousins are still cousins in my family), and when news went out that I was diagnosed, they all did their homework. More than 50 people added to our list of allies. Seriously...anyone want a cousin? Christmas is coming...
