Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a treatment option for some people with epilepsy. It involves surgically implanting a small device that sends electrical signals to the vagus nerve, which has been shown to help prevent seizures over time. Studies estimate VNS reduces seizure frequency by about 45% on average. However, results vary - some see greater improvement while others see little or no change. It rarely leads to complete seizure freedom. Over time, around half of people using VNS see at least a 50% decrease in seizures.
