Yes, it's possible to inherit epilepsy from a parent. According to the search results, if one parent has epilepsy, the chance of their child developing epilepsy is less than 5%. If both parents have epilepsy, the risk increases slightly. The type of epilepsy can also impact inheritance - generalized epilepsy is more likely to be inherited than focal epilepsy. The search results also discuss how genetics contribute to some types of epilepsy more than others. About 30-40% of epilepsy cases have a genetic component. Environmental factors can also play a role in developing epilepsy, even for those with a genetic predisposition.

I'm sorry to hear that you came down with it. But also glad you didn't have to get it thru injury as many do. Not having to go thru injury and suffering pain, getting it unknown, is one of the few lucky things I got from epilepsy. Something you may be able to consider lucky is that you and others with you have some knowledge on how to react, treat different actions of Epilepsy from pass experience. Just trying to find a positive in the negative for you is all I'm trying to do! TAKE CARE!

Epilepsy, SUDEP and SUDS run on Dad's side of the family. One brother and sister had TC's and focals. Focals, in my case. Another sister had a TC and I swear has focals but the seizure meds were cut in half. Brilliant. Cousins, also, one with focals then TC. Another had 'shaking all over' thought to be anxiety. She died in her sleep at 30. Another with TC's she seems to have outgrown and Absences. Another started with focals and died with 1st TC a few weeks later. My dtr. died with her first TC.
