There are many different forms of epilepsy an types of seizures from epilepsy. I believe majority can be progressive but there are some that can't. If you want to make sure if the doc.that told you yours wasn't you can get a second opinion on their diagnosis. Also, even if your epilepsy isn't progressive don't think you can't live a successful life, Such as Edger Allen Poe, Elton John, Sir Issac Neuton, Theodore Roosevelt ,and many very successful an historic people! Take care and keep faith in yourself.

Margery, please do not dismiss other members’ concerns! It is a scientific fact that seizures kill some brain cells when they occur. When more of a person’s brain cells die, it lowers the threshold of other brain cells to seize. So yes, seizure disorders are progressive. It’s scientific fact; ask your doctor!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member This is probably the best way to look at it. Everyone always panics and freaks out about it but the reality is age in genral regardless of wether you have epilepsy or not is progessive. You may have some other issue come along while the epilepsy remains the unchanged.

I'll have to message my doctor to figure this question your asking because I know I have Gran Mal Seizures and I have no idea what that means by progressive with it or with epilepsy even showed it to my mom shes confused to.

It really depends on what it is and how well its managed. The other thing though in general alot of the time if its not managed well things can progress regardless. In my case technically mine is seen as progresive but mine has always been really well controlled so nothing has really changed in 26 years.

The main thing to remember the main thing the causes progression is multiple or really bad TC seizures if you can stop that then it helps alot.
