Any One Age 60 Or More On AEDs For Long Long Time Having Or Fear To Get Major Side Effects.
I am age 60 years long time on Levetiracetam 3000 mg daily, Lacosamide 200 mg daily and limitrogene 150 mg daily.
Fearing should not get any major side effects in the old age.
Any one has idea.
You probably will with Keppra(Levetiracetam) if the maximum dosage for this drug is 2000mg and you are taking 3000mg. That tells me Keppra isn't working and you should be removed from it. Talk to your neurologist. You shouldn't have to worry taking the other meds as long as they are controlling your seizures.
Hi Lesley Donnelly, yes those medication do cause a strain when it came to my behavioral pattern. I was on Phenobarbiton first, Phentoin, Epinutan and finally Epilim which took care of my seizures. It made a big difference. Thanks
In my case, Levetiracetam (Keppra) and its stronger analog Briviact, turned out to be CAUSING my partial seizures. Once I found a neurologist who would listen, he started me on phenobarbital. Once I reached the therapeutic blood level of phenobarbital, we started weaning me off the Briviact. It has been over two years since I am off the -cetam class of drugs, and I have had no seizure activity. I suspect that, if I was weaned off the phenobarbital, I would still not have any seizures.
To me, that particular class of drugs, which is given to all patients presenting with new seizures, per American Medical Association protocols, is pure poison. If you are taking 3000 mg daily, you are almost certainly experiencing anger and possibly suicidal thoughts. If you are plagued by these side effects, I highly recommend talking to your neurologist about transitioning you to something other than Keppra.
I've had epilepsy for 51 years now and been on Phenytoin for over 35 years. Most AEDs cause side effects such as irritability, anger and depression.
I am in my 70’s , I get my blood levels done every 6 months. Dizziness or nausea is common but always tell your physician to tweak the level.
