Any One Age 60 Or More On AEDs For Long Long Time Having Or Fear To Get Major Side Effects.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am age 60 years long time on Levetiracetam 3000 mg daily, Lacosamide 200 mg daily and limitrogene 150 mg daily.
Fearing should not get any major side effects in the old age.
Any one has idea.

You probably will with Keppra(Levetiracetam) if the maximum dosage for this drug is 2000mg and you are taking 3000mg. That tells me Keppra isn't working and you should be removed from it. Talk to your neurologist. You shouldn't have to worry taking the other meds as long as they are controlling your seizures.

I've had epilepsy for 51 years now and been on Phenytoin for over 35 years. Most AEDs cause side effects such as irritability, anger and depression.

I am in my 70’s , I get my blood levels done every 6 months. Dizziness or nausea is common but always tell your physician to tweak the level.

If it works well, be glad. If a side effect bothers you, speak to the Doctor. They will find another one that should do the same things.

Hi Lesley Donnelly, yes those medication do cause a strain when it came to my behavioral pattern. I was on Phenobarbiton first, Phentoin, Epinutan and finally Epilim which took care of my seizures. It made a big difference. Thanks
