I Have A Question About Mixing Meds.
After my head injury. I was taking just Dilantin. Then after the many times I woke up in hospital, they increased my dosage. Then after more times waking up in more hospitals they started giving me different meds. Right now I am taking Dilantin & Primidone.
Hi.
I had trouble with a doctor giving me a med and as normal I trusted him. 3 days later I had a seizure due to the med I was given. If you have a good pharmacy that you trust. Make sure when you get medication you talk to them before taking any. My pharmacy has checked all meds that I have had to take and I have had to go back to the doctor to change my medication I was getting because the doctor didn't look at my notes properly. I hope this helps.

I’m on 3 different meds, but have been on a lot of different ones over the years. I’ve always been on combinations because my seizures are so difficult to control. But my doctor kept searching for the right combination, and we finally found a balance to keep the seizures controlled. So yes it often requires more than one prescription. Randy’s right though, ask your pharmacist about any warnings or possible interactions when you fill it, or even just ask when you’re in the store next. They should be able to help you with that!
Good luck and hope you stay safe and as seizure free as possible…
@DaveFerguson. I never thought of getting my pharmacist involved. Years ago when my daughter was little we had to go to Baylor Medical Center and do a full detox and start from bottom up on meds. At that time she was on a mix of Dilantin, Lamictal, Tegretal, Phenobarbitol, and can't think of the fifth she was on...all at one time. Quite a cocktail for an infant. Our pharmacist then helped compile a list of everything tried and failed. It makes sense tho as now they have computers as well that can spit out information on medications being taken as a whole in addition to seizure meds.
My neurologist no longer prescribes Dilantin to anyone. I had a particularly violent Grand Mal while on it and labs showed no therapeutic to zero level value on my 3Xday dose. The last problem was toxicity and at the same dose. He told me that Dilantin is a drug that isn't stable to maintain a therapeutic value and he put me on Lamictal. I have Clonazapam added after a couple runs to ER with seizures; however, I had crashed my potassium both times and had started getting dehydrated. I don't think I needed that addition other than perhaps as a "rescue" med if a breakthrough seizure occurs, which blessedly has not.
Sherry is on Keppra, Clonazapam and Zonnegram.
I'm on 3 different meds. Carbatrol, Keppra, and Fycompa.
The only thing you want to worry about is whether or not the off the counter drugs have any affect on your seizure meds. If your not sure you may want to talk to your Dr. And find out what one will or will not effect them.
As For The Strange Dream I Mentioned, Do You Think The Med (s) We Take Have A Part In Those Dreams? Just Curious About That?
