Midazolam
I've just explored the site a little more. I came across the epilepsy association medication list and found diazepam rectal gel listed but no intranasal midazolam?? I realise the majority of people here aren't Australians, so perhaps it's something not used often overseas
I still occasionally have a very large grand mal that requires medication to bring me around, but I was put onto using intranasal midazolam years ago
Prior to the midazolam all my partner could use during a large grand mal… read more
I’m from the Uk and have found it over the last two years 100% a game changer!
I only on the odd occasion have status tonic clonics and have been prescribed midazolam but it’s for those around me to put into both cheeks in my mouth, only hospital if it doesn’t work or something goes slightly wrong.
100% found it a game changer though as being at home for recovery is so much more comfortable for my postictal symptoms
I use the nasal mizdazolam. It has helped me a lot when I have seizure clusters. Almost always stops more from happening, I've only had to take a second dose twice. I have focal seizures and am usually aware during them. The only drawback for me is that is stings like crazy! But I'd much rather deal with the stinging than having a med put up my butt! My neurologist had no problems prescribing it for me.
Without dragging myself from the bed I think the midazolam is 5mgs in 1ml. Isn't it difficult getting a dropper in your mouth when your seizing?
I live in Scotland and I didn’t know that you got rectal anticonvulsants at all! The procedure in the UK for grand mal (tonic clonic) seizures is just to put someone on their side, make sure that they are not choking or hurting themselves and let the seizure run its course. If it turns out to be cluster seizures, you dial for an emergency ambulance.
Thanks :) Your input really means a lot.
