Who Doesnt Feel Like They Are In There Anymore Since Taking Meds?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

This question is for everyone- Does anyone feel like their meds have taken away their personality and feel like a zombie with no zest for life anymore? I used to be able to concentrate on things and since increasing meds, being on meds for so. long, adding another med, maybe just having epilepsy in general- I feel like I am being dumbed down. Like I can't concentrate on anything anymore. Can't start a conversation- can't pay attention to people - like I'm a zombie or a robot and only do the… read more

I feel a lot different on my meds. I have been put on a lot of new ones because I have been having a lot more seizures. I am on 6 meds now but the Dr will eventually start taking g me off some if I stay seizure free. This way he knows what to working. I almost don't want to tell him when I have one because I am afraid he will increase my meds or worse add another Medicine. I have them at night sometimes and I am home 90% of the time. I also don't have any friends here because I just moved to WInter Park and I don't drive. Do that doesn't help finding friends to hang out with. I have what my Dr calls refractory epilepsy so I will never be on just one medication. I get that. I have various types of seizures because I also had a tbi from an automobile accident. So I am a mess sometimes.

I'm so sorry you feel this way, but I will say I feel the exact same way. I am a special education teacher and three years ago studied for my Master's degree. However, two years ago, I was hired for an administrative job that I could have done easily years ago. I knew I could do it, but when it came to actually doing it, I couldn't complete any assignment. It was so frustrating. These medications are so hard to function with. My health has degenerated so much that I can not work now. My medications are increased and I either have seizures, recover from seizures, or asleep. I have lost my job, social life, children, personality, LIFE!!! Seizures and medications have taken my life from me! I cannot function with these meds and they don't even work for me, so I have had the VNS surgery to get off the meds that I am on. I am so sorry you feel that way about meds and I understand what you are talking about! Unfortunately, I think the medication is worse than the seizures. With love, M

I'd so love to be driving again. I'm 10 years now not driving. I'm just on Topamax. Was on Topamax and carbamazepine but the mix made me a complete zombie. I still have no energy but I still manage to run my own business so some positives! I'm not who I was though but have finally come to terms with that.
