Pregnancy And Epilepsy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi to all the ladies here. Just want to know who was still on their meds while they were pregnant?

And if so on what meds were you? Is Lamictal (Epitec) safe to drink while pregnant?

Thanks xx

I took carbatrol and lamictal but couldn't breastfeed. Now have a smart 13 yr old daughter. I lost weight instead of gained .

I don't know anything about the meds you are on but I went through 3 pregnancies on Tegretol without any problem. I breastfed 2 of the 3. The only thing different was that I had to go to a high risk doctor who did high risk ultrasounds to check for problems with the fetus. They checked all the chambers of the heart & measured every little thing from head circumference to length of leg bones to make sure everything was developing as it should be. Good luck to you.

My gyne says I must get off Lamictal (I am on 300mg a day) and rather use Epillim. But my neurologist said that Lamictal is safer? To get off Topamax wont be a problem, I will be able to cope without it, the gyne also said that one is bad.
