Does Anyone Else Have People Tell Them To Stop Using Their Epilepsy As An Excuse?
I had a couple people tell me to stop using my epilepsy as an excuse and everyone knows i would never do that
Okay so you have a good reason (not an excuse!) for not being able to do things. You do NOT owe ANYONE an explanation nor do you own ANYONE an apology! People have told me I can do things or even should do things but when you are coping with epilepsy you can only deal with what you have that day. If you have seizures then you are dealt with recovery. I have found the auras are even enough at times to put me off enough to make me feel off. Plus medications can make me feel off. So it all plays into it. Plus epilepsy is an invisible “illness” that you deal with that you can look fine but feel like you have been run over by a semi. You know how you feel today and deal with today. If you have to cancel today do it. Sad to do it but dont let guilt play into doing too much that can cause more seizures. You are precious and worth it. Take care of yourself! You will feel better on your good days and your not so good days and bad days will not be so bad because you have taken care of yourself. When we don’t take care of ourselves and let ourselves overdo and push ourselves and please everyone our bad days are really bad.
I don't use my Epilepsy for excuses for anything. When my seizures are acting up I just keep to myself and stay home it may take a few days to get better. When I feel better I am doing things.
Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member . I agree with you , the we literally shouldn’t use Epilepsy as an excuse.
It’s when our friends, family and anyone for that matter, accuses us for making that excuse.
For example. I have plans to do something today. My body and brain says otherwise . I start having Strong Seizures and I start feeling very exhausted and tire . My family or friends arrive and are on their way. I have to tell them that I have to cancel . They just think I’m making an excuse with my epilepsy.
That’s what frustrates me.
No one should use Epilepsy as a excuse
Many people . It’s very frustrating and it’s getting old. Now days I ignore them.
Has Anyone Told You That You Use Your Seizures As An Excuse For Everything
How Often Do You Get Accused Of Faking A Seizure?
