Epilepsy And Employers
Does anyone straight up tell your employer while being interviewed for a job that you are epileptic? I know that they can't discriminate, but I feel like they do sometimes when I tell them I have a disability. Also, has anyone had to do a request for accommodation? If so, what did the accommodation consist of?
Morganohare Don't know if you've read my post I suffer from 24 hours of back to back non convulsive seizures every week ( for some unexplained reason o n the same day ( for a couple of months it'll be Tuesdays ,go back to Saturday) Not stress related ,same pattern now I've retired. I'm sure they felt I didn't want to work on Tuesdays where I worked if you had a certain amount of time off ( in my case 1 day a week), the whole absence policy would start again They did make some reasonable adjustments ( Occupational Health wanted more I can still here the HR woman saying ' is her absence sustainable ( I'd known people be off sick for months after mayor ops, was there's sustainable I wonder !) Fortunately I was nearing retirement age but put up with this for over 10 years ,despite the Equality Act
You don't have to. If You get the position, then let Them know You have Epilepsy.
I've had it dozens of times now. I'm always getting a lot of interviews, then get jobs + I wait till I'm told I have the job to tell them I'm Epileptic + the amount of different places that have thrown me out on the 1st or 2nd day as soon as they hear I'm Epileptic!
I was up front letting them know on my apt and never got hire but got called in and they told me at interview they would like to hire me but my ep stop them so from there on I lie on every app and got hire right away
I was upfront about my epilepsy at interviews, because I don’t like to hide anything. They didn’t want to hire me after the second interview. I told them I had someone at the local paper wanting to do a story on the trouble I was having getting a job because of my epilepsy, and I said I was going to get them some unwanted publicity. They did another interview on the spot and I have been with them for almost 24 years. Don’t ever give up!
