I became very depressed after I was diagnosed. The meds I was on were affecting me so much that I could hardly speak. I asked for a referral to a psychologist specialising in epilepsy, for some counselling. The psychologist I was referred to suggested that I might not actually have TLE but that it was psychological. I refused to follow that path and sought a second opinion from a second neurologist who specialises in epilepsy. The specialist in epilepsy was absolutely furious at the psychologist. Only believe a neurologist who specialises in epilepsy. And believe 100% what they say.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member thank you! My neurologist who believes I have epilepsy and anxiety is epilepsy speacilist and a behavior therapist. I think I will follow her instruction especially after hearing your story as well. I have no life stressors right now. Life is good except What ever is going on with my own health. My children and husband are well. Finances are better then they have been in a while. Etc.

I had basically the same thing happen to me. MANY trips to the ER for seizures only to be told they are fake. Are you kidding me? I am peeing down my leg and my eyes are rolling around in my head and you say they Are fake? It’s all because they asked if I have ever experienced a traumatizing event. I said yes, I had been raped when I was 17. That’s were the testing stopped and the docs assumed it PTSD.

idk this dr but i would get another dr. a neuro or an epilepto dr would be awesome. that dr getting a psychiatric to a mother in law is just here to get a cash or dont know what the hell epilepsy is. that or the dr took too many patent.

Thanks @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member my mother in law actually just came from that same hospital she also has seizures, she did a 5 day EEG that same doctor just told her to seek a psychiatric consult. And She isn't having seizures. Another doctor came in, read the result, said what in hell are you saying? Of course she is!

Seems like a pattern. She can't read eeg and she sends everyone to therapy
