Moving From City To Rural Area

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ

Me and my wife both grew up in rural areas before we moved to the city for employment. I then started with encephalitis and epilepsy and had to give up work and my wife became my carer. Lately we have both been discussing moving back to a rural area to get away from the stress. Only thing is we would sacrifice the things we rely on like doctors, hospitals, vets, shops, transport. If I have a seizure now I know I can get to my neurologist quickly but if I move back to the countryside I don't knowโ€ฆ read more

My husband and I just moved back out to a rural area... My doctor is about an hour and a half away( before we were an hour away) but we have a huge creek( 8ft wide and average 4ft deep) we are in Royal Arkansas USA where there is spring fed water well( awesome water) it's quiet, no noise except God's creatures, only a couple of neighbors, which we cannot see. We are about 30 min. from ER but I don't usually go anyway. Call me crazy but I've had so many seizures and died at least 3 times so I'm through with ER... All but one time; another, that wasn't a medical professional saved my life. I'm relaxed, happy and hopefully reduce seizures( we moved here last month) Not suggesting for anyone to do this but there's nothing left for doctors to do... Soooooo I'm gonna be happy ๐Ÿ˜Š and rely on God. I'm 43 and born with seizures. If I have less seizures due to reduced stress I won't need doctor much. Our business is here on our property. I always have less seizures in rural area. Screw city life!!!
God bless you
As I said before this is me, not suggesting for anyone else.

I live in a rural area. My doctors are 45 min to 1 hour away. I have lupus and an encephalopathy on top of epilepsy. So sometimes I worry but i think the slow pace helps with my health. Does a bad snow storm cause stress sure. Once we had a tornado and I went into Status Epeleticus but the local volunteer firefighters swung into action and did their job beautifully. I think the benefits outweigh the costs.

I like quiet rural community life. We are a 20 minute drive from shoppes and petrol. we have neighbors with space between. Just have to ask before you pass the shoppes, " do we need anything"? Life is more relsxed, seems slower.
