Can When You Get Older It Your Menstral Cycle Affect Your Epilepsy

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am 37 and it seems like my seizures seem to coincide with my period either when i start, 2 days prior, 2 days after or with in 2 days of me starting. Can my cycle be affecting my seizures. I am sorry if this is gross to anyone.

Yes, definitely. Every time i have an episode, i log it. I also log my periods. Because i was convinced they would flare up more during my cycle. And sure enough, they do!

Yes, it definitely can affect seizures. It’s called catmenial epilepsy. I experience the same thing...it’s not gross, just a part of life🙂

Actually This Is A VERY GOOD Question That EVERY Woman With Epilepsy Should Be Asking. And No It Is Not Gross It Is A Natural Cycle Your Body Goes Through To Help You Regulate Your Female System. Do Not Be Embarrassed To Ask Such Questions Sometimes Other People With The Condition Are The Best Ones To Ask The Doctors Don't Always Have ALL The Answers. Ask Someone Who Has Already Been Through It, Someone Out Here Should Know The Answer To Your Question Good Luck With That Issue I Hope It All Works Out Well For You
