Definite Food Triggers Anyone??

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Can I ask a diet related question of everyone please
Has anyone been referred to a dietition or nutritionist (not just for keto) to look at an elimination diet to detect any possible food related neuro-stimulants that could be triggering their seizures??

I am in Melbourne, Australia and my son first saw Specialists at the Children's hospital (at age 14)and now sees an adult specialist.(never caught anything on EEG, but seems to be Temporal Lobe Epliepsy)
He has had both tonic clonic and… read more

Hi Danielle
In Australia, in my state,Victoria, is the first government to legalise it.It is offered at AU$1000 per month's supply!!.
I have been getting some organic CBD through an underground source in another state, a scientist who really knows his stuff. (My son's specialist is not a fan of CBD, but it is not him who has to endure the side effects of the pharma offerings.) I still give my son 300mg of Tripleptal and 450mg at night, 2 drops CBD am and 4 drops at night. He had 18months seizure free with these two, but adolescence has led him into a degree of non-compliance (especially with diet) which I am trying to get him through.

Hi,
You can look up the elimination diet where every 7 days i believe you omit a certain thing from the diet, gluten, eggs, corn, sugar, etc and then slowly re introduce. The process is slow and time consuming. I did this once prior to having epilepsy as part of my yogic practice and found my body just didn't like the combination of dairy and gluten together but was ok with dairy and gluten separately. Now that i have epilepsy i do find gluten be a trigger, or it seems events a trigger( i only truly eat gluten at events) so it could be both?

I have a nursing background as well and document my seizure activity well and my activity is catamenial in nature. Hormones are my main trigger, light and stress. As far as food I think gluten, and caffiene ( if i drink more than 1 cup of coffee)

i have 2-4 things for you. the gf (gluten free) diet, the atkins diet, the mad (modified atkins diet), and the keto diet. the gf got a little better. the 2 atkins worked a little bit more. but the keto worked a lot.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member yes MSG is a huge trigger for people. I am actually MSG free prior to having epilepsy. My parents werw hippies so growing up they literally taught me to label read and i worked in a healthfood store and know all the hidden terms. What brand of CBD do you prefer?

No. But from studying nutrition I would try going gluten free. Many people are allergic to gluten and have seizures from it . Try that besides keto. How old is your kid again? He might be too old for keto to work like I was.
